Humans are changing the planet in unprecedented ways. Water, soil, minerals and other resources are being required at record levels to support exponential population growth, provide adequate food resources, power the global economy and maintain life as we know it. We will examine what is being done to address the impact of climate change on vulnerable populations worldwide – and how local governments are dealing with rising coastal waters and the threat of more extreme weather fueled by climate change. Federal policies developed often seem stuck in fixing the problems of past natural disasters, rather than planning ahead for the next crisis. At the same time, states and local communities are learning how to harness technology to ensure a sustainable future.
On Wednesday, August 5 at 2:00 p.m. ET, Washington Post Live will gather both global visionaries and local leaders on the frontlines to discuss how conservation and sustainability priorities have promoted innovation and changed the way cities, states and industries grow and thrive.
